The blog itself is focused for ECE students. So, it is more useful to ECE and EE students.
The post is more valid for the student who already got good GATE rank and going to join M.Tech in communication and signal processing areas. It may apply for areas also.
I asked few GATE aspirants that why are you preparing for GATE. A common answer was they don't like programming based jobs. But the reality is all the subject that you deal in your M.Tech involves programming and without programming, you cannot master any of those subjects.
These days GATE aspirants largely depending on coaching centers where they master in theory and problem-solving. But, in general, they loose experimentation of the concepts that they have learned. I would strongly suggest having strong fundamental skills in any one or more programming languages that help in experimenting the concepts.
I am giving a list of programming languages which will be useful.
1. Irrespective of your research area, a common tool that everyone uses in higher studies is MATLAB. I am sure, you have already experienced it.
2. In recent times machine learning and deep learning gained a lot of importance. If you want to work any of these areas, the existing toolboxes use a scripting language called Python. Python is very popular and open source, where MATLAB is proprietary.
3. C is a very fundamental programming language for learning any other language. It enables your logical thinking and improves the programming skills. It is also very important during campus placements along with you core subjects.
Programming is art ! it is added advantage!
All the best.
